There is much planning involved in a successful party. It is tiring but fulfilling once you have carried out the vision in your head. At this time last week, I was staying up late ensuring every detail of my sister’s 40th birthday was well thought out and executed. By Friday morning I had to give in and drink coffee to be productive at work because I was dragging (the coffee made me drag myself to the bathroom every other hour but it was worth it). The very reason why my weekly programmed blog entry was not published. The party came out so well, I decided to write a blog about it. No, I will not bore you into the details of everything I did but I will go into details of a few of the highlights.
My sister had a rose gold vision to celebrate her 4 decades of life. Upon the decision of the signature color of the event, we let our imagination take control. Quickly we decided on the main table where the sweets would be displayed. I decided to honor her favorite sweets to take center stage such as chocolate covered strawberries, pink starbursts, rice krispy treats, strawberry hard candy, chocolate kisses, cookies, cake popsicles , and of course cake. All the treats were created by team work, the cake popsicles were carefully crafted by our dear friend (@sweetfreshawesome). The cake was a grand display of an elegant shoe with rhinestones to symbolize the elegant woman we celebrated that night. The party souvenirs were mini pink Rose bottles for guests. The final result was a pink heaven of sweetness which guests were eager to indulge all night.
The backdrop for the sweet display was a whimsical take on popping bubbles of champagne. A cascade of balloons ranging from confetti filled clear balloons, rose gold balloons and white balloons wrapped to the side of the table. The balloons spilled onto the front of the sweet table decreasing in size. The front of the display had glass vases with LED battery powered candles glowing all night. The backdrop and table runner consisted of rose gold sequence to add to the glamour. This display took me several hours to create and lots of sleep lost, however it was worth it. I enjoyed watching guests during the party as they were taking photo-shoots besides the display. The awe on their faces made me feel all warm inside (very few things do that to me). I proudly can say, it was a major highlight for I received much praise for this rose gold dream creation.
In every party, the food needs to be on point. In this house party, it was no exception. My mom and aunt are accredited for the food production. Anyone that knows my mom knows she goes big or goes home. She likes to overfeed people and give them doggy bags with their party departure( and then she wonders why we got lots of meat on our bones). The food selection was Nicaraguan cuisine with a small fusion of Cuban (because we had croquetas and pastelitos-shout out to Vicky Bakery). The main appetizer was Vigoron, boiled garlic yucca with sauteed onions, pork rinds, and topped with cabbage salad. The main entree was Arroz a La Valenciana, a bed of rice with onions, peppers, carrots, sausage, chicken and spices. The main dessert was marshmallow fruit salad. This plus many more selections for appetizers fed the 80 + guests. Food plus a grand selection of liquor and beer kept the party going. No one was left hungry.
My favorite part of every party is the dancing. For a good dance floor, the right ambiance must be set. The living room of the house was transformed into a nightclub dance floor by having cocktail tables draped in white spandex glowing with different colors. The speakers had disco lights that brighten the dim room. Music blasting from start to finish in every genre to entice the stiffest of feet to break out and dance! I danced until I could no more. I cheered for every guest to do the same for I like to see a crowded dance floor filled with happy moving bodies. It was a success for shoes came off, hair went up and guests kept dancing all night as confetti was dropped from the second floor.
The guests at the party all wore black as requested by my sister’s invite ( I joked that black symbolizes the death of her youth ha!) Everyone looked so stylish. My sister, the birthday girl ringing in her 40th wore a rose gold sequin dress to stand out in the crowd. She celebrated with family and friends and did so in style and elegance. The happiness on my sister’s face was evident.
Yes I was exhausted the next day but it was worth it. I will bake all night, dip treats in chocolate until 3am, inflate balloons until the latex powder makes me sneeze, use the hot glue gun until I burn my fingertips, and decorate until my eyes can’t stay awake ...all in exchange for the great happiness it causes. This party was one for the books. Cheers to another successful celebration. I am already planning another party because my imagination has lots more to offer and needs to create. Let's party on! In the wise words of the Great Gatsby “A little party never killed nobody!”
